The Great Power Shift

Why Generation AI Will Redefine Brand Growth

The world is undergoing the fastest transformation in human history. Technologies that once required decades to achieve mainstream adoption are now reshaping societies, economies, and consumer behaviour within just a few years. Artificial intelligence is at the centre of this acceleration, fundamentally changing how people search, discover, evaluate, and purchase products and services. These new behaviours are prompting brands to adapt but focusing only on the visible behavioural changes, risks missing a far more significant development.

The true transformation lies in what can be described as The Great Power Shift: the rise of Generation AI.

At the heart of this transformation is Generation AI: a rapidly growing population of consumers who have grown up in a world of algorithms, intelligent assistants, and always-on digital ecosystems. By 2030, they are expected to represent nearly half of Malaysia's population and contribute significantly to economic growth globally, regionally, and locally.

But what makes Generation AI different is not their age. It's their mindset.

They are native sceptics, questioning branded messages by default and looking for proof before promises. They are more vocal, more connected and far less likely to be persuaded by traditional advertising. Most importantly, they expect authenticity, participation and relevance, not just communication.

This is creating a major shift in how trust is built. Consumers are increasingly influenced by creators, communities and AI-powered recommendations, rather than relying solely on brand messaging or legacy reputation.

Yet many brands continue to operate as if nothing has changed, optimising for impressions instead of connections and focusing on what they say rather than what they do.

To win with Generation AI, brands need a new playbook:

  • Walk the talk through genuine, observable authenticity.
  • Earn cultural credibility by contributing to conversations, not chasing trends.
  • Enable participation by inviting communities to co-create and shape experiences.

The transition is clear. Brands must move from speaking to consumers to earning the right to be heard; from building awareness to building belonging; and from relying on inherited trust to creating trust in real time.

The future belongs to brands that are discoverable by AI, trusted by communities and relevant within culture. Because in the age of Generation AI, the question is no longer whether consumers trust your brand.

The real question is: Does AI trust your brand enough to recommend it?
